Jana and I went to Hiromi’s house to help set up the dolls for Girl’s Day. We were much faster this year and had the dolls up in under and hour. We also learned how to make giyoza (Chinese dumplings). It was a blast to hang out with Hiromi and her mother. We were also able to met Hiromi’s travel partner Jim.

Ahh, I am glad to be at school. This is the first time I have been able to sit and relax since Friday. I had a weekend full of activities.

In Japan, March 3rd is Girl’s Day which is called Hina-matsuri (Doll Festival). Parents of a new born baby girl go out and by a set of hina dolls (or they use the dolls that have been passed down from generation to generation). Each year the dolls are set up in the house of the girl.

Hiromi’s mom is teaching Jana and I to cook some Japanese dishes. A couple of weeks ago we went over to Hiromi’s house to learn how to make pork cutlets (tonkatsu) and croquette, Here are some pictures from that day!

Saturday was one of the best days I have ever had in Japan! Last Wednesday, Jana, Hiromi, and I went to Sukiya for dinner and I asked Hiromi if she knew how to make croquette, a French word that the Japanese use. It is pronounced korokke.
